Europe

Northern Ireland, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge

Europe is a continent that extends over the western fifth of the Eurasian land mass. Although geographically it is a subcontinent that together with Asia forms the continent of Eurasia, it is historically and culturally usually regarded as a separate continent. This indicates that the term “Europe” is not exhausted in its geographical definition, but also refers to historical, cultural, political, economic, legal and idealistic aspects.

The inhabitants of Europe are called Europeans. With over 740 million inhabitants (2015) living in an area of about ten million square kilometres, Europe is one of the more densely populated parts of the world. Europe is highly urbanized, especially around the capitals and the megalopolis “Blue Banana”. Important political alliances in Europe are above all the Council of Europe and the European Union.
